Finnish Light Art Society FLASH announces the FLASH Curatorial Residency in Finland. This winter, there will be two separate residencies, one in Helsinki and one in Oulu. You may apply for one, or both, of these residencies.
FLASH residency Oulu: 18.11.-22.11.2026 (arriving 17.11.)
FLASH residency Helsinki: 30.12.2026-3.1.2027

THE RESIDENCIES
The Oulu residency takes place during the fifth FLASH Biennale and coincides with Oulu 2026 European Capital of Culture year, the Lumo Art & Tech –festival and Lumo Light Festival. The programme includes visiting LUMO light festival, getting to know Finnish light art and artists, a seminar, networking and getting familiar with darkness. The FLASH residency in Oulu is organised in collaboration with Oulu 2026 European Capital of Culture.
The FLASH residency in Helsinki includes visiting Lux Helsinki festival and other light art exhibitions, getting to know Finnish light artists, networking with international light art professionals, participating in the professional programme of Lux Helsinki, and as the grand finale, the highlight of the light art social calendar: the 10th birthday party of the Finnish Light Art Society FLASH. The Helsinki residency is organised in collaboration with Lux Helsinki and Home Hotel Jugend.
There are five spots available per residency. Priority is given to curators with experience in curating light art, but we’d like to invite curators with incipient interest in light to apply as well. The residencies are for all curators, Finland based curators excluded.
The residencies are free of charge and cover
• The costs of travel up to 400 € (500 € if using surface travel)
• Accommodation: In Oulu 17.11. - 21.11.2026 - location TBC. In Helsinki 30.12.2026 - 3.1.2027, accommodation in Home Hotel Jugend, including breakfast, afternoon coffee and dinner.

APPLYING
To apply, please fill in the application form by noon CET Wednesday, August 12th, 2026.
Please fill in the required fields as concisely as possible – the total application should not exceed 5000 characters.
The participants will be chosen by the end of August. All applicants will be informed of the decisions.
A SHORTCUT FOR SELF-PAYING VISITORS
Do you want to take part in the programme at your own expense? For a limited amount of light art professionals, who will cover their own travel and accommodation, there is a possibility to attend most of the events for free.
